Update 2021: Unforently due to a number of instances, I am no longer actively recommending this activity. Find a ton of local attractions and things to do by clicking here.
Take a step back in time at Fort Cross Old Time Adventures. This unique locally run attraction is full of hands-on historic, fun, and one of a kind activities. Doreen and Jesse Cross along with their friends and family are dedicated to giving their visitors an experience they will never forget.
“We are so grateful to be on this beautiful mountain where God blesses us every day. Our daily endeavor is to make this place a fort dedicated to Jesus, and His display of love on the cross. It may not be surrounded by walls and ditches, but our goal is to fortify our post with love and grace for everyone who comes here.”
-Jesse and Doreen
Throughout the year Fort Cross offers seven interactive events ranging from workshops to camp outs. Packages range anywhere from $5 to $75. The activities at Fort Cross change with the seasons, so you always have a new reason to come visit. To name a few, visitors learn how to throw a tomahawk, enjoy a hayride, visit the petting zoo, and so much more. Often times activities will include a souvenir for you to remember your trip.
One of the fort's most popular events is their annual Lilac Festival. The Cross’s have 5 acres of organic Julian-grown lilacs. This year Mountain Made is excited to join in on the fun! Spend a day walking through the lilac groves, participating in fun actives, and grab yourself a Fort Cross Lilac scented candle or two from the gift shop. The cute candles are hand poured right here in Julian for Fort Cross. After April, the lilacs maybe gone but with this candle you can enjoy them all year long.
There are some many cool things about Fort Cross. For those with large groups, Fort Cross is able to cater to you too! They do ask that you call ahead so they can make sure you get the most out of your trip. Church groups, Girl/Boy Scouts, large Italian families (like mine), this is a perfect memorable adventure for your group.
So come on up. It’s time for a good 'ole hoedown!
