You may know about Julian’s gold history, famous apple pie, and breathtaking views, but do you know about its unique apple beverage? Whether you're looking for a refreshing soft drink or an alcoholic beverage, Julian is quietly growing into a destination for craft cups of all kinds. Thirsty? To help bring light to these beverages, I’ve rounded up seven (soon to be eight) must-sip locally made drinks to add to your beverage bucket list.
Julian Cider Mill’s Apple Cider
The Julain Cider Mill was founded in 1975 by the Slaughter family. Here you can find a wide assortment of yummy snacks, local honey, and of course, homemade raw apple cider made with only local apples. Their cider is 100% pure apple juice. Unlike apple juice you find in the grocery store, cider is unpasteurized, unfiltered, has no added sugar, and is never watered down. You can taste the difference! They also make a delicious Cherry Apple Cider that's available all year long.
Julian is home to Southern California's first Hard Cider company, Julian Hard Cider? Nestled in an old apple processing plant with over 10 flavors on tap, the Julian Hard Cider Miner's Saloon is a must-see... and must-taste! After 7 years of producing their cider out of town, Julian Hard Cider is now producing their award-winning cider in Julian at Apple Lane Orchard. You can find Julian Hard Cider in local grocery stores around the county, at their tasting room located in the Julian Station, Julian Beer Company, and at Apple Lane Orchard.
Apple Lane Orchard Cider
Located just outside of downtown Julian, Apple Lane Orchard produces fresh apple cider. They sell apple cider all year long . During the fall they use local apples in their cider while the year's crop lasts. You can find their cider in local grocery stores and sold by the cup in restaurants.
Apple Pie Beer from Nickel Beer Co.
Nickel Beer has been a prominent leader in Julian’s micro-brewery revolution since it’s opening in 2013. Founder Tom Nickel has been brewing beer since he was 18. They have 16 house-brewed beers on tap. One of them being their famous Apple Pie Beer. Before you leave grab a 32 oz and 64 oz jug of beer and brewery merchandise (including glasses, shirts, hats, beanies, and sweatshirts) to take home with you.
Apple Cider Milkshake from Miner’s Diner
Well, it’s not on the menu but this bad boy is one of the few things on the Miner’s Diner “secret menu.” A vanilla milkshake made with fresh Julian apple cider instead of milk tastes like a blended pice of pie. Seriously, it’s so good!
The Cooler
It’s time for Julian Mimosas! Julian Hard Cider and fresh orange juice make the perfect combination for a one of a kind drink. This specialty cocktail can only be found at The Cooler.
Hot Caramel Apple Cider from the Julian Cafe
The name say it all. This bad boy is sweet, sticky, and yummy!
Coming soon!
Julian Beer Co.
JBC is working hard to perfect their apple beverage. In the meantime, you can enjoy Julian Hard Cider here.
